The wonderful Natalie from Sugar Bakeshop has guest blogged again for us and she’s got quite a treat for you: Blueberry-Vanilla Quickbread!!

“There’s really nothing like berry season. When I was a kid, we used to head to a local farm and fill up crates of strawberries that we picked right off the plants. It was one of my favorite ways to spend a summer morning…probably consuming as many berries as I was putting into my basket…but that is what you are supposed to do at those places, right?

As the summer continued, our house would always be filled with red raspberries, blackberries, and of course the mulberries that came from the tree in my neighborhood (I think that I was the only one that ate those).

I’ve always been a sucker for any kind of berry. They pair so beautifully with everything from citrus to chocolates while of course standing on their own perfectly fine. When I was just learning my way around a kitchen, I would always try my hand at blueberry muffins. Even growing up in the Midwest, I never had a chance to go blueberry picking. So naturally as an adult with her very first garden, I bought a blueberry plant. I don’t know if my lack of a successful crop is due to the fact that I am in dry Colorado or maybe because the plant is only 1 year old, but so far, I have harvested 3 berries. My fingers are crossed for next year.

At [Sugar Bakeshop,][3] our counter is filled with all things berry at the moment…and lucky for us, we don’t have to rely on my blueberry crop to keep things rolling. One thing that is currently in high demand is our blueberry-vanilla quickbread.

While being in the shape of a loaf, this treat is almost like a light cake. It makes a great breakfast or a really nice afternoon snack. I like to have a piece with coffee in the morning, but we have discovered a few customers that top it with whipped cream and fresh berries after dinner. Any way you slice it (pun intended), this is a solid recipe that can be enjoyed at all times of the day.

Don’t have blueberries? Try some of those red raspberries from your farmers market…or the strawberries from your yard…or even frozen mixed berries will do. Either way, do me a favor, and take advantage of this amazingly delicious season…my 7 year old self will thank you.”
