We know that making a huge leap to “healthy” can be a bit of a challenge. So we’ve focused on some great substitution ideas that are simple to implement, therefore making it easier to eat healthier. Applesauce in place of oil!!

For every amount of oil in the recipe, cut the oil by 2/3 cup and replace that with applesauce. For example, if the recipe states you need 1 1/2 cup oil, substitute 1 cup of applesauce and use 1/2 cup oil. Applesauce is perfect because it doesn’t contain a strong taste, and therefore will not effect the outcome of your food’s taste. It acts just like oil!

The reason this is beneficial is because vegetable oil contains more fat than applesauce. To give some perspective, about 1 tbsp of vegetable oil has 13.6 grams of fat! Since applesauce is made from fruit, it is much much lower in sodium and fat. A 4oz serving of applesauce contains .5 grams of fat, 1 gram of fiber, and 2 mg of Vitamin C!!
