Strawberry Roses

Who knew you could make strawberries look like roses AND it’s pretty easy!? These can be covered in chocolate at the end if you want or put them in a vase just as they are to snack on!

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries
  • Wooden skewer
  1. On a cutting board with a strawberry stem at the bottom (or you can stick a fork from the stem area for more stability OR use a wooden skewer), slice downwards into the base of the strawberry but don’t cut all the way! To make more of a petal effect, round the knife while slicing (like when you are trying to cut the orange peel or pineapple skin off with a knife). You can bend the petal tips backwards just a bit as well to give it that petal flare at the end. You’ll most likely make 4-5 slices for the outside petals.
  2. Next, alternating between the outer petals, slice downwards to the base of the strawberry again. Repeat this pattern 1-2 more times
  3. Lastly, cut a little swirl at the tip. When you reach the end of the swirl, you can try pulling out the tips central area or leave it.
  4. If you haven’t done so already, stick a wooden skewer into the end of the stem area and place in a vase or jar. Use a variety of different strawberry sizes and add to vase/jar for more variety and an organic natural feel!

Note: At the end of our Youtube Short we show how to make these strawberry roses.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Hearts

Another version to making chocolate strawberry hearts! These would look so nice in a  box with a red ribbon wrapped around it and gifted to someone!

Ingredients:

  • Container of Strawberries
  • Bag of Semi-Sweet Chocolate
  • Bag of White Chocolate (for drizzling)
  • 2-3 teaspoons coconut oil
  1. Pull stems off strawberries, do not cut off. On a cutting board or plate, cut strawberries in half and lay flat end of each half on a cutting board. Bring strawberry halves together so tips are touching like in video (it will make a large heart shape!).
  2. To keep strawberry halves together, insert a toothpick through the side.
  3. Next, in a microwave safe glass measuring cup, melt ¼-½  cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave 15 seconds at a time until fully melted, mixing with a spoon or whisk in-between.
  4. Flipping strawberries over onto a cooling rack so the flat side is facing up, cover the flat side with melted chocolate with a spoon or brush. The chocolate might not want to stick to the strawberries so feel free to dab flat side strawberries with a paper towel to absorb some of the liquid.
  5. Place strawberries in the fridge and let cool for 15-20 min or until chocolate is hard.
  6. While chocolate strawberries are cooling. In a microwave safe glass measuring cup for pouring chocolate, use ½ cups of chocolate (you can remelt chocolate used for bottom of strawberries too) and place in microwave for 15 seconds at a time until fully melted.
  7. Add 2-3 teaspoons of coconut oil into melted chocolate and mix well until ingredients are combined. This will make the chocolate shiny and also add a bit of coconut flavor!
  8. Take strawberries out of fridge and flip over so round sides are facing up. You can either leave toothpicks in at this point or remove CAREFULLY or strawberry halves will separate from chocolate at bottom. Pour melted chocolate over all the strawberries, use a spoon to help move chocolate around to cover the strawberries entirely if need be.
  9. Move chocolate covered strawberry hearts into the fridge to cool for 15-20min.
  10. Melt ¼ cup of white chocolate. Optional: add ½ tsp of Rodelle Vanilla Paste or Rodelle Vanilla Extract- you might need to include 1-3 teaspoons of milk to help it mix in with the white chocolate. If it starts to clump, melt again for 15 second and mix.  Drizzle white chocolate over the cooled chocolate covered strawberry hearts with a spoon or whisk. Cool in the fridge one more time for 15-20 min before serving. Enjoy!

Note: If the bottom of your strawberries aren’t flat you can warm a pan up on low heat and melt the chocolate at bottom just a bit on each strawberry.
