Welcome Kelly Lynn!

What makes Friday afternoons even sweeter than they already are? A double-layer double chocolate cake does the trick for us! Our newest Brand Ambassador, Kelly Mikolich, made this lovely creation to showcase the deep, rich flavor of Rodelle Gourmet Baking CocoaKelly Lynn’s Sweets & Treats is a great resource for from-scratch baking recipes (like this chocolate layer cake)! Kelly is a self-taught baker with a knack for showing her readers techniques and tips to ensure that even the most novice baker can make her recipes. From staples like cookies and vanilla marshmallows, to decadent cupcakes and everything in between, you’ll be sure to find a recipe that inspires you!

Here’s a little bit of information about the chocolate cake recipe from Kelly:

“This is a super moist, super chocolatey cake that is sure to please the chocolate lovers out there! Buttermilk and coffee are just two of the ingredients in this cake that make this cake amazing! Just like usual, this chocolate cake beats out all the box-mix competition! This cake is easy to mix up and you have pan options too…bake in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan or divide the batter equally into two 9-inch round cake pans. Both take about the same bake time, but always keep an eye on your cake.  You don’t want to over bake a chocolate cake!”

Oh, and don’t miss this post – it comes with a sweet giveaway of Rodelle goodies that you can use to bake up your own treats at home: Rodelle Gourmet Baking CocoaRodelle Vanilla Extract and Rodelle Chocolate Extract! Just be sure to visit Kelly Lynn’s Sweets & Treats by 2/26 to get entered!

Eating Healthy with Rodelle

Fruit Roll Ups_sq_web

The new year is always a great time to kick off new healthy habits – including everything from working on your fitness to cleaning up your eating. After all of the holiday baking and preparing treats for friends and family, you may be accustomed to turning to Rodelle for trusted baking essentials. But, did you know that those baking essentials can also be the cornerstones of flavor that will make your healthy recipes shine?

Rodelle Vanilla Extract is a wonderful flavor enhancer for unsweetened or naturally sweetened recipes, similar to those holiday cookies and candies. Adding vanilla extract is an easy way to flavor unsweetened, plain yogurt for a quick, protein-packed breakfast. Or, try adding a teaspoon to acidic dishes like a hearty and healthy tomato bisque to cut through some of the acidity.

Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa isn’t just for baking! With a superior, all-natural cocoa flavor, your breakfast oatmeal or smoothies can take on an indulgent taste without adding sugar or excess calories. We’re big fans of our low-carb Whipped Cocoa Ricotta with Pears – this is a low-fat calcium and antioxidant rich breakfast option. We serve ours with pears for a hint a sweetness.

Rodelle Pure Almond Extract is a fabulous way to add a sweet flavor to your morning coffee without adding any calories or sugar. If you crave that richness from coffee creamer, you can make your own with this recipe – just substitute 2 teaspoons of Almond Extract in place of the Vanilla Extract!

Lastly, Rodelle Gourmet and Organic Spices and Spice Blends pack on the flavor without a lot of sodium, calories or added sugars. Check out all of our spice offerings to add gourmet flavor to your favorite dishes!

New Cocoa Packaging!

cocoabag_us_costco_frontangle_white

We are excited to announce our new packaging for our fan-favorite 25 ounce Gourmet Dutch-Processed Baking Cocoa! We decided to make the shift from a rigid container for many reasons:

  1. Plastic reduction: Our new bag reduces the amount of plastic per container by 92%! While both containers are recyclable, the less plastic we use, the better!
  2. Cost savings: As costs of plastic and cocoa continue to rise, the reduction of plastic was an automatic way for Rodelle to be able to provide the same high-quality baking cocoa to our customers without a significant price increase.
  3. Quality packaging: We are proud to now offer our baking cocoa in BPA-free, recyclable plastic bags.
  4. Shelf space: Any extra bit of space in our (over stocked) pantries is needed in preparation of holiday baking! We wanted to minimize the footprint of our bag to allow for easier storage in smaller spaces.

Even though we have new packaging, we are still putting in the same Gourmet Dutch-Processed Baking Cocoa you know and love from Rodelle! We’re even celebrating with a list of our top three visited cocoa recipes from 2016!

  1. Rodelle Dark Chocolate Cake with Baileys Whipped Cream Recipe
  2. Sugar Bakeshop’s Chocolate Cake Recipe
  3. Decadent Hot Cocoa

We hope you enjoy one of our top cocoa-heavy desserts and all of your own recipes with our Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa this Fall and Winter! And, watch out for more information on our brand new Organic Dutch Processed Baking Cocoa!

Chocolate Oreo Cake

Chocolate-Oreo-Cake-1-from-willcookforsmiles.com_

Sometimes we all need a dessert that takes it to the next level. This Chocolate Oreo Cake does just that! Originally developed for Rodelle by Lyuba at Will Cook for Smiles, this cake is beyond heavenly. Lyuba created a soft, moist cake base with a lot of Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa and kept adding in some of our favorite flavors. With all of the chocolate flavor in the cake from the world’s best cocoa powder (we aren’t biased or anything), the frosting keeps things light and airy with a cream cheese base. But don’t worry – we’ve added crushed Oreos into the light frosting to keep the Oreo theme going. With three layers of rich, homemade chocolate cake and the Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting, we could have stopped there. But, why would we!?

Top your cake off with a homemade or store-bought hot fudge, more Oreos and you’ll have a cake that everyone keeps coming back to for seconds and thirds. But, don’t take our word for it, try the recipe and let us know what you think!
